FYB Safety Protocols

The safety of our community is a core value of the Foothill Youth Basketball (FYB) organization. To ensure a safe program we follow and exceed the guidelines of the CDC for youth sports, the State of California Youth Sports guidelines, the Santa Clara County guidelines, the safety protocols established by the school districts covering the FYB boundaries and the YMCA of Silicon Valley indoor protocols as organization running youth indoor basketball programs.

Head Injury

Any impact caused to the head, or an impact on the body that transmits a jolt to the head, is considered a brain injury that may result in a concussion. When a concussion is suspected,

Key elements of our health and safety protocols in a nutshell are:
  • All coaches must be fully vaccinated. All staff at games (e.g. gym monitors, scorekeepers, etc) must be fully vaccinated.
  • We have made best efforts to also require the same of the referee contractors for our games. Based on feedback from various referee organizations and research of large youth sport organizations in California, we've learned that the vaccination requirement will prevent us from sourcing enough professional referees for our games. Referees will be required to wear masks and be temperature checked at games but will not be required to be vaccinated. Games will be refereed by professionals who will be socially-distanced from players and other attendees. Again, we're committed to providing the safest environment for our league and will monitor the standards as they develop and adjust accordingly.
  • All players have to be symptom free on the day they attend practice. To verify whether your child has relevant symptoms related to COVID-19 the parents have to use the CDC symptom checker within 4 hours before practice start.
  • Until otherwise stated on the FYB website, all participants in the FYB program have to wear masks indoors, irrespective of their vaccination status. This includes all players, coaches, game staff, and fans.
YOUR CHILD MUST WEAR A MASK AT ALL TIMES WHILE IN THE GYM, INCLUDING WHILE ACTIVELY PLAYING IN PRACTICE AND IN GAMES.

Foothill Youth Basketball will update this page throughout the season with the latest details on the safety and health protocols implemented by FYB. Game day

For Games and Scrimmages we encourage spectators to attend to watch and enjoy their players play. We will however be limiting the attendance to only 2 spectators per player for our larger gyms (Egan Large, Blach Large, LAHS) and to 1 spectator per player for our smaller gyms (Egan Small, Blach Small).
  • All players, coaches, referees & spectators will need to check-in at the entrance of the gyms. We request that if you are running a temperature above 100.4 to kindly refrain from attending the game. Temperature will be checked for all and needs to be below 100.4 for admission.
  • All spectators 12+ will need to show proof of vaccination. We request you to kindly have them handy when you arrive to facilitate a quick and smooth check-in process.
  • All players, coaches, spectators and league staff are required to be masked. Referees are encouraged to wear masks, but are not required to wear them.
  • All players, coaches and spectators are requested to wait outside the gym (and not in the foyer) for it to clear before entering the gym for your scheduled time of play.
