Dear Parents,
The 2018-19 season for FYB is coming upon us
shortly. Hope you all had a great summer break and
gearing up for school. We will be opening
registration in 2 phases as last year. Returning
Players and their siblings will get to register
first between Aug 24-28. Returning players will
receive a code to use during registration by email
before registration opens on Aug 24. All remaining
and new player registration will be between Aug
30-Sep1. For the second phase, there is no need to
try and register as soon as it opens. Everyone
registered during this period will be entered into a
lottery to fill the remaining open slots. Please
read more about the changes to registration
here.
The Girls All-Net program is still in flux at the
Section level. Section has declared that the Girls
Open League last year as a success and plans to
continue it. The Girls Open League includes
chapter-sponsored All Net teams, playing against
each other and a number of AAU club teams. For more
information about the Open
League, please go here. We are considering
fielding All-Net teams for Girls based on the
interest level of our players. If you are
interested in playing at the All-Net level, please
indicate your interest during registration by
checking the box for All-Net.
This past season, we had quite a few numbers of
younger players join FYB who were not ready to play
basketball at this level. Even though FYB Division
Program is a recreational program and we don't do a
tryout, this year we will be introducing a minimum
requirement to be eligible to play for D3. Please
read more about the requirements
here.
We will be requiring that you sign a commitment
letter similar to what we have done in the past for
All-Net and All-Stars. Over the years, we have seen
that more players are missing practices and games.
Being a team sport, basketball requires all players
to be present in order to effectively plan and
practice plays. Please read more about the commitment
required here.
Foothill FYB is a non-profit organization run by
parent volunteers in the community. Each year we
look at the cost of running the program and make
adjustments to the registration fee as needed to
cover the costs. As such there will be a slight
adjustment to the registration fee this year to
balance the costs of the program we offer. The
registration fee will be $425/- this year (a $10/-
fee increase). We do offer financial aid for those
who need it. Please read more about our FAP
program here.
We have seen a significant increase in interest in
our community for playing FYB (especially boys) over
the last couple of seasons. We are however limited
by the availability
of Gym Space and volunteer Head Coaches. All
our division teams are coached by volunteer parent
coaches. We are always in need of good coaches. If
you are a basketball fan, have basketball knowledge,
and/or enjoy working with kids, we encourage you to
step up and coach a team. It is a very fulfilling
experience, and we will provide all the support
necessary. You can read more about coaching
here.
We are looking for women to coach teams as well. We
field roughly 20 girls teams every year, and we
would like to give these girls role models of women
in leadership roles. We do believe that there are
quite a few women with high school or college
playing experience in the community. We strongly
encourage you to step up and be role models. Seeing
women in leadership positions can help motivate
young girls to join the sport.
Note that if you decide to coach a team, your
child will be given higher priority and will be
automatically placed on your team. In addition,
we will be providing a $100/- rebate from the
registration fee for one child.
Wish you all a wonderful season!
Regards,
Subu Gupta
President, Foothill FYB
